Walk to End Alzheimer’s
Take the first step on the journey to end Alzheimer’s at this walk, one of hundreds taking place all over the country as part of the national Walk to End Alzheimer’s initiative from the Alzheimer’s Association. The money for registration and all other fees go toward the continued research, care and support of the disease, which affects roughly 5.1 million Americans. As of press time, the Bayou Area walk has raised $34,881, well on its way to its $82,000 goal.

Terrebonne Race for Life 5K
On Oct. 8, runners and walkers flock to Broadmoor Park in Houma for the annual Race for Life 5K. One of the primary events hosted by Terrebonne-Lafourche Right to Life, this 3.11 mile trek raises funds and awareness for the pro-life movement.

Second Annual Superhero Bike-A-Thon
This isn’t your typical bike race. It’s a course designed just for kids to support the work of Stella Learning Center, the first Autism and related disorders learning center in the tri-parish area. Kids of all ages are invited to come out anytime during event hours to test out the course, enjoy booths with activities, food, music and more.

Magical Dance Party
Dance the night away while supporting Upside Downs, a local non-profit organization supporting those with Down Syndrome. The evening features music, food, games, door prizes, and a $4,000 Disney vacation raffle. John Tucker of A&E’s “Born This Way”, the Emmy award winning docuseries highlighting the outgoing personalities and amazing abilities of seven adults with Down Syndrome, is also set to stop by as the evening’s celebrity guest.
